Bangladesh Bank expands financing access against OBU foreign currency deposits

Bangladesh Bank has broadened the scope for utilizing foreign currency deposits held in Offshore Banking Units as collateral for financing.

The Bangladesh Bank has introduced measures to widen access to finance by allowing foreign currency balances held in Offshore Banking Units (OBUs) to be used more effectively as collateral. Previously, these foreign currency holdings were restricted to serving as security only for short-term working capital financing in local currency, specifically for resident companies, firms, and individuals.
