The Ashuganj fertiliser factory has remained non-operational since March 2025, primarily due to a shortage of gas. According to the chairman of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), there are plans to restart production within this year, provided that gas supplies are restored. The corporation anticipates that this move will result in savings of Tk22,000 crore for the government.
