Red Sea Tensions Pose New Threat to Bangladesh's Trade and Energy

Rising tensions in the Red Sea may force Bangladesh's Europe-bound vessels to divert via the Cape of Good Hope, adding 7,500 kilometres to their journey.

The escalating situation in the Red Sea has created fresh concerns for Bangladesh's trade and energy supply chains. According to TBS Bangladesh, any further deterioration in the region would necessitate that vessels bound for Europe from Bangladesh bypass the area by taking an alternative route around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. This diversion would extend the voyage by approximately 7,500 kilometres.
