South Korea implements expanded espionage law to safeguard chip technology

South Korea has enacted a revised Criminal Act to better address industrial and technology espionage involving non-North Korean actors.

A revised Criminal Act has officially taken effect in South Korea, aimed at strengthening protections for the nation's critical chip and industrial technologies. The National Assembly passed the legislation on 26 February following prolonged criticism that previous legal frameworks were inadequate for prosecuting espionage cases involving entities outside of North Korea.
