The government of Bangladesh has decided to halt the import of hilsa from India. Additionally, 103 No Objection Certificates (NOCs) previously issued for these imports have been cancelled.
Reports indicate that hilsa imported at approximately Tk500 per kilogram was being sold in local markets as Padma hilsa for prices ranging between Tk2,000 and Tk3,000 per kilogram. This measure was taken to address these market irregularities.
