Climate-resilient seeds boost rice production despite shrinking farmland
Data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics reveals that rice production and yield per acre have increased despite a decline in total cultivated land between FY21 and FY25.

According to data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the total land area dedicated to Aus, Aman, and Boro rice cultivation decreased by approximately 2% between the 2021 and 2025 fiscal years. Despite this reduction in farmland, total rice production rose by about 8%. Furthermore, the yield per acre saw a significant increase of 10.3%, highlighting the effectiveness of climate-resilient seed varieties in maintaining food security.
