According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, hilsa production in Bangladesh has seen a downward trend for three consecutive years. After reaching a peak of 5.71 lakh tonnes in the 2022-23 fiscal year, production fell to 5.29 lakh tonnes in 2023-24. The decline continued into the 2024-25 fiscal year, with production dropping further to 5 lakh tonnes.
