Jinnah's 1948 Dhaka Visit: A Historical Overview

Seven months after the partition of British India, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the then Governor-General of Pakistan, visited Dhaka on March 19, 1948. This marked his first and only trip to East Pakistan. During the visit, his declaration of Urdu as the state language caused significant disappointment among the Bengali population. The visit was also marked by heated arguments between Jinnah and Bengali student leaders, which included threats of removal.
