The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) originally sanctioned the Metro Rail project on 15 October 2019. At the time of approval, the estimated cost for the initiative was set at Tk52,561.43 crore. Alongside the rising costs of the project, the interest rates on Japanese loans are now expected to increase.
