UN adopts new world map to accurately reflect Africa's size

The United Nations has voted to adopt a new world map designed to reflect the true size of the African continent. Under the traditional Mercator projection, territories near the poles appear significantly larger than they are, while regions near the equator appear smaller. This distortion often makes Africa appear comparable in size to Greenland, despite the fact that Africa is approximately 14 times larger.
