A total of 197km of roads in Chattogram have been damaged following eight days of continuous heavy rainfall. This figure surpasses the cumulative road damage recorded during the monsoon seasons of the last six years.
According to official data, the city received 1,354mm of rainfall between 6am on 5 July and 3pm on 12 July. Notably, 412mm of rain fell within the 24-hour period ending at 3pm on 7 July, marking the highest daily rainfall in the city in 43 years.
