Recent data released by the Department of Fisheries indicates a downward trend in hilsa production. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, total production reached 512,000 metric tonnes, compared to 529,000 tonnes in 2023-24 and 571,000 tonnes in 2022-23. Despite this overall decline in national production, an increased supply of the fish in Chandpur markets has led to a reduction in prices, providing relief to local consumers.
